We hope the beauty and peace of the area aren't missed with all the activities and other "stuff" going on. Take a moment to enjoy this wonderful little corner of the world...it's a treasure!

The famous "floating bridge"—in the heart of Pond Village—is open until the lake freezes —it's safe to drive across too! The Brookfield Free Public Library is the oldest library in continuous use in the State. The Marvin Newton Historical House contains the Brookfield Historical Society, lots of old, neat stuff and offers many summer programs and is open Sundays. Allis State Park is a nifty little place located at the top of Bear Hill. There's play equipment, BBQ pits, rest rooms and some nice walking and hiking trails. The fire tower, which you can climb, offers panoramic views of Central Vermont. Ariel's Restaurant and Village Pub, located here in the Village, is open Wednesday through Sunday. The Arts in the Park featuring local artists, weavers, furniture painters and basket makers is held the weekend of August 10th, next to Sunset Lake. The Brookfield Ice Harvest has been awarded the honor of one of the "10 Best Events in Vermont" and is held the last weekend in January. There are lots of "critters" around here: little things like rabbits, raccoons, and, of course, skunks—plus coyotes, fox, white tailed deer, black bears and moose. If you like photography, there's something interesting around most every corner. If painting is your pleasure, you can set up your easel most anywhere. Lots of birds too!

Vermont Tech College is quite nearby and holds the annual Rug Hookers Convention early each summer. We are a good spot for people attending seminars and conferences or coming for Parents' Weekend. The 4th of July Parade is one of the bigger and better small town parades and is a hoot! The Chandler Music Hall has an annual 4th of July weekend community musical production. Also, in the Chandler Cultural Center is the Chandler Art Gallery which offers local artists and photographers exhibition space and is open to the public. The Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival is a 2 week long series held in August. The Whole World Festival, each September, is a day long celebration of music, crafts and foods of different cultures. Vermont Castings is near by and Amtrak comes through Randolph too.

Norwich University is just 15 minutes from us. We're a handy place for Parents' Weekend, Home Coming and the annual Vermont Quilt Festival (June 23-26, 2005). We're also a good location for those attending the Colby Military Writers' Symposium—held at Norwich each Spring.

Montpelier is our State Capital and the State House is a handsome building. The town is an easy "walk around" town and it's best to park and do just that. There are several shops and galleries, plus the New England Culinary Institute and their 3 restaurants. Barre is home of the famous Rock of Ages and the granite quarries.

Ben & Jerry's Factory Tours, the Cabot Cheese Outlet and the Vermont Chocolate Company are in Waterbury on the way to Stowe and make a nice, lazy day of yummy stuff to munch on and lovely sights to see.

But the best spot in Vermont—we think—is our front porch reading a good something-or-other or just messing around; or doing nothing—absolutely nothing at all.
