Round Top

"Round Top" was built by Connie’s great-grandfather – Halsey R. Philbrick, in 1890. As the story goes – Mr. Philbrick of Hartford, Connecticut married Annette Wilson of Brookfield, Vermont. She grew up in the small farm house located at the foot of Round Top's driveway. Annette hated the summer heat of Hartford. To escape that - as well as visit her family here – great-grandfather had Round Top built for her. It has remained in the family and is a treasured little retreat situated on a granite knoll – thus, the name. Round Top is less than ½ a mile above the floating bridge – a leisurely walk for a swim in the spring-fed lake.

Round Top is available for rent and is a delightful spot for families with young children. Those coming to visit the farms through the “Floating Bridge Farm & Food Cooperative” will find it an easy location almost in the center of Brookfield. Sweet Root Farm is just across the field as is Merle & Skip Buck small stable - with their horses and wagon rides. Allis State Park is just up the mountain.

Anyone looking for a retreat will find Round Top a wonderful place to relax and renew. There are 2 porches - one is a great morning-coffee-watch- the-sun-rise spot nestled off the dining room and the front porch has a northern exposure - 4 rockers and a rail for resting your feet! Seems to always have a summer breeze. Often, there are local critters running across the fields and if you time it right - there are loads of wild blueberry bushes. That's if you can beat the birds!

There are 3 bedrooms in the cottage and it’s furnished with everything you might need – linens too. There’s a first floor bedroom and bath if there's an issue with stairs. Just bring your food!

The cottage is open from May 15 through September 15.
